Martin Scorsese – complex and brilliant

What did I expect to see from Martin Scorsese’s hands? I know that he is a brilliant movie director famous for dark themes and action films. I expected to find creative brilliance and dark imagination. His hands did not disappoint. 

He has a squarish hand with short fingers, and three of these are decidedly conic, maybe even a little pointed – the Mercury (little) and Jupiter (index)   fingers and the thumb. Scorsese has slightly thick fingers with pronounced third phalanges, shortish second phalanges, and a long, slim, first phalange of Apollo on a prominent finger. He has a long, supple thumb with a long will (first) phalange. He has a fairly long, slightly curved heartline reaching the Jupiter mount and a medium-length, slightly sloping headline which is likely forked. The most prominent mounts on his hands are the Moon, including Lower Moon, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury mounts. That’s a lot of mounts to be well-developed. The first phalange of his Apollo (ring) finger is long.

It’s all there. His creative brilliance is clearly etched on his hand and it’s not only seen in one place. The headline, the curve of the moon mount and his Apollo finger all point to it. But creativity of the genius kind is not a characteristic that can stand alone like an island,

Shiv Nadar's hands show a clear headed thinker

The most striking aspect about Shiv Nadar’s hands is his dark, deeply etched lines. There aren't too many lines either. Also significant are his long Apollo (ring) and Mercury (little) fingers. Other hand features include a broad palm, well-developed mounts of Moon, Lower Mars, Jupiter and Venus and good first and second phalanges of the fingers. The thumb is a good length and the first and second phalanges are balanced. There is a good balance between the length of the fingers and the palm as well.

Shiv Nadar’s heart and head lines do not appear to be very long although they seem to have lighter extensions. Without seeing these clearly, it is difficult to draw conclusions about this aspect. Elon Musk’s hands were not a surprise but it never fails to amaze me when a hand fits well into what is already known about the person. Yes, sometimes, hidden personality traits are revealed by the hand. That’s the case here too, at least to some extent, but largely this hand fits him.

The shy Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria ruled the UK and Ireland for 63 years, from 1838 to 1901. She was a notable monarch not only because of her long reign but also because plenty of changes took place in the country during her time – industrial, political and scientific. She also had the title of the Empress of India. 

It was a pleasant surprise to find a bronze sculpture of her hands on the internet. This hand reading is based on this sculpture on the assumption that it is more or less accurate. You can check out the bronze sculpture here.

Not too many features of the hand are visible, just the major lines and the phalanges and to some extent the length of the fingers and thumb. She had long first phalanges, and a thumb of decent length with a good first (will) phalange and possibly a short Jupiter (index) finger. The headline is sloping and the curve is a balanced one. The heartline is straight and not too long and also without a fork. On the left hand, the heartline is different, more wavy, curvy. The head and lifelines are close together at the start. The lifeline, however, starts to move outwards pretty early.

Overall, the lines seem clear and dark and the Jupiter and Venus mounts are developed. She must have had other minor lines on her hand as well but the sculpture has not captured it. It is a good guess however that

The Hands of Dictators!

Is there such a thing as a typical dictator’s hand? There certainly isn’t a typical engineer’s hand or a doctor’s hand. Hands don't reveal professions because people with all kinds of temperaments populate a particular profession. There isn’t even a typical criminal’s hand because there are different types of crimes and different types of criminals!

When it comes to dictators’ hands, the more I study them, the more inclined I am to think that dictators do share some personality traits. Managers have different styles of managing but a dictator has just one style – authoritarian. I have read several hands of authoritarian leaders on this website, like Gaddafi, Morsi, Idi Amin, Hitler and Kim il-jong. So, what is similar about their hands? 

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

HH Sheikh Hamdan is the Crown Prince of Dubai and is popularly known as Fazza.

Reading hands of royalty is fascinating as the environment tends to change them, resulting in some differences in their left and right hands. The active hand reveals the current active personality while the other hand shows the subconscious/inherited qualities. 

Royals usually lead a life of luxury and don’t need to earn their living and this can change who they are. That is just one aspect of it. The second aspect is that royals generally get adulation from their people, more so if they are attractive, well-turned-out and active in social projects. Thus their primary motivation is different from that of the average person. 

Does this mean that the current personality changes for the worse? Not necessarily, because it depends on what characteristics they are born with and the kind of environment they are brought up in. A loving, caring environment can assuage some negative qualities. Also, exposure to intellectual activities can help expand their horizon and their mind.

In the case of Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai, the right and left hands expectedly differ.

Joe Biden the democrat and statesman

Joe Biden has the hands of a statesman. He has a largish hand, pronounced first and second knots on his fingers and long, fine lines along with a low-set thumb held a little apart. His fingers, though short rather than long, are not too short. His fingers are straight, except for the Jupiter (index) finger and the thumb is a balanced one with a slightly waisted second phalange and the first is bending backwards. The mounts of Venus and Moon are the most developed but the mounts of Jupiter and Lower Mars are good too. 

The size of the hand matters. It is the size and shape of the hand within which the actual lines are to be interpreted. When the hand is large (relative to the body) it shows a thinking person. The developed knots add to the thoughtfulness. One cannot help but compare Joe Biden’s hand to Donald Trump’s hand, which is supposedly small. People with small hands tend to be more emotional and tend not to analyse or think too much. Small hands are not found on great leaders. 

When it comes to measuring the size of hands, a hand can be considered small only if it is small relative to the height and size of the person. With experience, it is possible to guess whether the hand size is small, average or big. There are many articles available which tell you about the average hand size. Arnab Goswami – what lies behind his television persona?

Arnab Goswami has made a name for himself with a flamboyant type of journalism, heading/owning as he does two of the most popular channels in India, of the Republic stable. There are critics galore but then there are devoted fans too. 

One wonders what makes the man who he is. Shouting and being rude is a part and parcel of his grandiose television persona and at times the “debates” get so heated as to sound almost deranged. Some feel that Arnab is not altogether sane…well, his hands tell us otherwise! 

The shape of his hand is normal, in the sense that he has a rectangular palm and medium-length fingers, tapering at the end. All of his lines – the head, heart and life – are well etched, although the heartline with its large fork dominates. The headline is clearly separated from the lifeline and is very high. Not only does it start high (at the base of the mount of Jupiter) it keeps going higher (not so common at all) and remains in this high position till around the time it reaches the ring finger. Kamala has large hands and a rectangular palm. Both the Venus and Moon mounts are developed. The fingers are mostly straight and normally set, except for the Mercury (pinky) finger which seems a little low set. The Jupiter (index) fingertip is conic. The second phalanges of the fingers are prominent but the first phalanges are not short, they are okay. The third phalanges are a good length and not too thick. The Will phalange (the first phalange of the thumb) is long, but not thick, and the Logic phalange (the second phalange of the thumb) is slim. The Lower Mars mount is not very developed; Upper Mars is stronger.

Sushant Singh Rajput - his suicide and his hand

Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide caught everyone by surprise. Celebrities killing themselves in the early days of stardom is rare (Sushant had just about started to make waves) but people killing themselves in modern times is not so rare. Pressures are high in several professions, particularly in the acting field. You are only as good as your last film!

What was it that led Sushant to take this extreme step? Was it something in his personality or was it because he was intoxicated? Did people around him push him over the edge? Or did he imagine that he was never going to make it in Hindi cinema, never going to fulfil his ambitions? It is common knowledge that he had difficulties in his career. 

His hand shows that he had the ability and talent to reach the top. His sensitivity, creativity and talent are more than evident in his hand. Perhaps it was temperament which was not suited to the cutthroat, parochial world of Bollywood! Sushant's hand

The hands of a handcuffed man...

There are hundreds of hand readings of famous people on this site and a few on palmistry as well. Some of the hand analyses are of notorious people like the serial killer Ted Bundy or this unnamed terrorist. Criminals' hands make a fascinating study although the hands cannot show whether a person will commit a crime in the future or even whether has done so in the past. The hand shows personality characteristics, not actual actions.

But one cannot discount the fact that the hand shows up weaknesses of personality, giving us hints about a person’s actions, criminal or not. 

Prints of criminals are not available freely and a quick of check of some hand-cuffed people on the internet was disappointing. A lot of these are “stock” photos so we cannot confirm that they belong to criminals. Even if genuine, some handcuffed people could have been handcuffed for minor reasons. Despite these reservations, after studying a few of these photos, my conclusions are that many of these hands aren’t “good” in the normal sense. They do not have the best lines. One of these hands stood out and this is the hand being analysed here. It belongs to an unknown handcuffed man. Whether or not he has committed a crime I cannot say, but his hand shows proclivity. 

These hands were selected as both the right and left hands have poor lines and therefore we can disregard (for the sake of study) the differences between the person’s active and passive hands.

Your hand reflects your opinion of yourself!

Your hand revea!ls your true self –  not who you actually are but whom you think you are. In plain speak, it outlines your opinion of yourself – what you think of yourself deep down, at the bottom of your heart, maybe even in your subconscious. The hand does not provide an objective evaluation of an individual and nor is hand analysis about what you and I think of a particular person. Such evaluations emerge from outside of the person whose hand is being studied, and therefore, will not be shown on the hand.

Our hand shape and lines are formed by connections to the brain, our own brain. Like I have explained in this post:

... Hundreds of nerves connect our brain to our body parts, including the hands. Why our conscious and unconscious thoughts are transmitted via the brain onto the palm is like asking why is it that we have ten fingers and ten toes. This is how our body is designed. Each body part has a function, sometimes multiple functions. The hand shape and palmar surface give us clues about ourselves and we can decipher them if we try.

That's why an outside/objective view of a person is likely to be different from what the person's hand shows.
