Satyajit Ray, the personality

Director silhouetteConsidering that Satyajit Ray is such a legendary film/movie director, there isn’t too much information about his personality on the internet. There is a lot written about his achievements. Ray was more than just a filmmaker – he was a writer, music composer, calligrapher, artist and film critic. Yet, not many of us know who Satyajit Ray was as a human being. Perhaps his hands can give us some clues.

It wasn’t surprising to find a long, fine and curved headline ending on the Moon mount on Ray's hands, the hallmark of a creative mind. Such headlines show intelligence and imagination. The headline, however,

Is MJ Akbar a sexual predator?

MeToo graphic
After the spate of sexual harassment allegations faced by MJ Akbar (a newspaper editor and ex-minister in the Indian government), I looked at his hands to see if there was something on his hands which explained it. It was shocking to hear that a man with such a formidable reputation and a family, should get himself into the news in this unsavoury manner

His hands are a good size and his fingers are long and slim, with significantly long and slim first phalanges and the thumb is long. He has sensitive pads on the tips of his fingers, and the main lines are fairly clear. The Saturn (Fate) line starts early and is quite dark until well into the forties. The Apollo (Sun) line is clear too and visible from a young age, an unusual marking for a journalist. The palm is slightly rectangular, not too much, and the lower mount of Mars is very highly developed, along with the Jupiter mount. The tips of his fingers are rounded, and the heartline is dominant. All these hand characteristics tell us a story.

Take a look at MJ Akbar's hands here. (The photo of MeToo published on this post is a free photo from Pexels.)

These hands clearly belong to someone who has been

Jawaharlal Nehru was not a weak leader

Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, does not have an extraordinary hand but his hand shows a good mind, a strong will and a warmth of personality. There has been criticism about how he handled his job, particularly the 1962 skirmish with the Chinese.

What kind of a man was Nehru? Born into a wealthy, political family, he was catapulted into the position. Did he deserve it?

Nehru's hand is rather fleshy, with well-developed mounts of Venus and Moon, as well as the Jupiter mount. Possibly the Mercury mount is developed too, but with not too many photos of his hands on the net, could not confirm this. The Mars mounts are reasonably developed and the fingertips are rounded, and the Jupiter (index) finger is distinctly conic. Nehru’s fingers are evenly balanced in length, with slightly thick third phalanges and long first phalanges. His Mercury (little) finger is longish and slightly bent, and possibly the index finger is also bent a little. He has a strong,

Mark Twain's hands

Is it possible to find out the kind of hand a person has – from past events and also known behaviour? In a broad sense, yes. This is nicely illustrated in the hands of the famous author Mark Twain.

Mark Twain was an amazing writer and that's a well-known fact. What is less widely known is that he was a poor businessman and had to file for bankruptcy due to bad investments although he recovered his fortune because of his writings. Is this visible on his hand?

His palm is broad and his fingers are of medium length. All his

Paulo Coelho's hand reading

Paulo Coelho pic
Paulo Coelho is famous all over the world for his novel – The Alchemist. He has 28 other books to his credit. He was also committed to an insane asylum by his parents but later managed to get out. Some people consider him their spiritual guru. One would think he is quite an intriguing personality, complex in fact!

His hands show a heavy development of mounts, short, straight, plump and flexible fingers with square tips, a very large thumb with a well-developed and supple top phalange, and good knots on the back of the hands. The thumb is also thick. The mounts of his hands which are the most developed are the Venus, Jupiter and Moon mounts. These mounts are excessively developed. The Jupiter (index) finger appears to be pointed. Knots are developed heavily.

Unfortunately, not too much of his headline is visible and therefore one has to rely more on the shape of the hands and fingers to get a glimpse into his personality. It was disappointing to

Dr APJ Kalam’s hand reading

Dr APJ Kalam’s scientific, intellectual, academic, and philosophic bent of mind is evident in various parts of his hand and the different signs show that Dr Kalam has the character of an intellectual, and he is a person with an investigative mindset, superior analytical ability, and great organisation of thought.

Thinking comes naturally to these people; almost akin to breathing. They will usually plan and think about everything they do. However,

About Cheiro's hand

William John Warner, known as Cheiro, made palmistry well known but there are those who feel that his books do not explain exactly how he arrived at conclusions and it is something of a mystery as to how he made such accurate predictions. I tend to agree with this and believe that it is unlikely that Cheiro himself knew how he did it. His extraordinary ability probably came from strong intuition, bordering on sixth sense.

His hand corroborates this. It shows

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's hand reading

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan* was a towering personality and this is all too evident from his hand, which is in fact, awe-inspiring. The long, deep, headline plunging into the Moon mount is often found on the hands of intellectuals and well-known authors and poets. A headline like that can show a high level of intelligence, imagination and brilliance in the character (as in the case of Dr Radhakrishnan) as long as it is a balanced one. But one has to read this sign with caution. In palmistry, the quality and strength of the headline as well as its overall balance

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's personality characteristics

Dr Manmohan Singh’s hand is that of an intellectual but his hand also shows that he is not that great a leader. This is an accusation that is often hurled at him by many. However, his hand shows that he has willpower, thinking prowess and determination. So what is it about him that makes him fall prey to manipulation? Is he really a weak man? His hand can give us an idea as to who Dr Manmohan Singh really is.

He has a broad palm, with shortish fingers which are conic in shape with long first phalanges. He has a strong thumb, with a balance of both the will and logic phalanges. His headline

Shashi Tharoor's hands tell us the kind of politician he is

Shashi Tharoor’s hands show him to be a man who enjoys mental pursuits and that qualifies him to be an intellectual. However, I have not been able to see the lines on his palm clearly and cannot confirm this aspect of his personality. The shape of Tharoor’s hands and fingers do give a fair idea as to what kind of a person he is though.

The secret of his success
Success depends a great deal on personality and Tharoor (currently Minister of State for External Affairs) has a strong personality. His above-average willpower, strong dominating will, ability to command others with a purpose, as well as good reasoning powers, judgment and common sense are all seen on his thumb. In addition to this,

Hand analysis of Lal Krishna Advani

It is difficult to get hold of the handprints of famous people but their hands are often widely photographed, particularly at rallies. Although the lines are not clearly visible, the shape of the hand and fingers are, and they can reveal something about the personality. In this case, about the personality of Lal Krishna Advani.

Advani has slightly thick fingers, with plump third phalanges, particularly the third phalange of Apollo or the ring finger. The palm is long, and the mounts are developed, particularly that of Moon and Mars. The fingers are of medium length. The Jupiter (index) finger seems to be slightly bent and the thumb is supple, held close to the hand and a little high-set, although the thumb phalanges are fairly well balanced. The first phalanges are long and the heartline clearly dominates the headline and the Mercury (little finger) is long. All this tells us a story about who LK Advani really is.
